Sites of the Northern capital of Russia are ideal scenery for an opera –thinks a famous Russian singer Dmitry Hvorostovsky. Together with American prima donna Renee Fleming he decided to convey it to millions of TV audiences as the world opera stars start working on a film called “Dmitry Hvorostovsky and Renee Fleming in Saint Petersburg” .
This will be a sort of musical tour around one of the world’s most beautiful cities-says Dmitry Hvorostovsky:
“Saint Petersburg is a unique city whose beauty could be second to Paris only. The singer notes that he will not only play a vocalist in the film but also the part of a tour guide for his charming lady gues”t.
There will not be much voice -over text in the film but there will be a lot of music. Arias from operas and romances by Russian and foreign composers will be performed by the celebrity duet during water tours along rivers and channels, walking tours along city streets and squares and against parks and fountains of the so-called “Russian Versailles” – the name for Peterhof palace. Music will accompany tours of the spectacular interiors of Yusupov palace one of the rare mansions in Saint Petersburg which boasts showrooms and luxury chambers of the owners.
Renee Fleming is one of Hvorostovsky’s favorite singing partners. Three years ago the famous baritone introduced Renee’s “golden soprano” to the Russian audience in his series of concerts “Dmitry Hvorostovsky and friends”. The singer admits that he admires Renee’s talent and unique repertoire which covers a wide range of compositions from early operas to works of the XX th century. She is can sing everything-admires Hvorostovsky:
“I heard Renee Fleming singing a romances by Rachmaninoff –it was so beautiful and exciting. Now Renee Fleming is making a very serious step –this certainly interests her from the creative point of view so I will eagerly help her”.
The film will feature ragments from Russian operas whose scenes are set in Saint Petersburg . For one, the closing part of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece “Eugene Onegin.”
