Medvedev, Peres warn against denying Holocaust
| Aug 18, 2009 21:25 Moscow Time |
Presidents of Russia and Israel, Dmitry Medvedev and Shimon Peres, are annoyed at the attempts to diminish the contribution of the Soviet Union to the victory in the WW II and deny the Holocaust. In a joint communiqué passed during the talks in the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi Tuesday on the occasion of the 70th anniversary since the beginning of the WW II, the two leaders called the war “the greatest tragedy in the history of the humankind”. As it was stated in the verdict of the Nuremberg Tribunal, the leaders of the Nazi Germany are to blame for launching the war on September 1, 1939, against sovereign states, including the Soviet Union and the Jews. Mr. Medvedev and his Israeli counterpart called on all nations to strongly condemn those who attempt to rewrite the history and distort the outcome of the WW II.
