Congo’s Rene Ndongo, New Zealand’s Alyn Ware, Ethiopia’s Catherine Hamlin and David Suzuki of Canada have won the 2009 Right Livelihood Awards. The Stockholm-based jury said that the four recipients demonstrate concretely what has to be done in order to tackle climate change, rid the world of nuclear weapons and provide crucial medical treatment to the poor and marginalized. Widely known as the Alternative Nobel Prize, the Right Livelihood Awards annually go to those working aggressively to uphold cultural values and address the most pressing global challenges.
