photo EPARussia sees as inadmissible the attempts to call into question the competence and powers of the UN Mission in Kosovo. This comes in a statement by Russia’s ambassador at the United Nations Vitaly Churkin. He was speaking during the Security Council meeting on Thursday. According to the diplomat, any initiatives to replace the UN Mission with other international structures are unacceptable, since they run counter to the relevant Security Council decisions. Churkin also levelled scathing criticism at moves by the Kosovo Albanian authorities with regard to the province’s Serbian population and the Serbs’ cultural heritage. The diplomat said, among other things, that an Orthodox church was destroyed in the city of Jakovica in 2004 as a result of anti-Serbian protests by Kosovo Albanians.
