photo EPARussian, US, French and Iranian officials are meeting at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna later today for consultations on Iran’s uranium enrichment for a research reactor. The parties to the consultations will specifically take up uranium enrichment in third countries, a proposal that the six international mediators already put forward during their talks with Iran in Geneva on October 1st. The need for deliveries is prompted by the fact that the Tehran reactor producing isotopes for medical purposes is running out of its fuel supply. In this context Iran has turned to the IAEA, so the Agency suggested using Russia’s and France’s potential for fuel assembly manufacturing. Moscow hopes that the project will prove important evidence that Iran’s nuclear programme is peaceful in character.
