The Palestinian Independent state still remains an unrealized dream, leader of the Palestinian autonomy Mahmud Abbas said Sunday on the occasion of Palestine’s Independence Day. It has been 21 years since the establishment of the Palestinian state on the Western bank of the Jordan River and in the Gaza Strip with the capital in Eastern Jerusalem was proclaimed. Today the Palestinian autonomy is split in two parts. The moderate Fatah movement headed by Abbas is ruling the Western bank of the Jordan river while the radical Hamas movement is controlling the Gaza Strip. The question of Palestinian unity remains unsolved despite Egypt’s mediation, supported by the global community.
