The draft resolution denouncing glorification of Nazism has been approved by the United Nations.

It stresses the inadmissibility of glorifying the followers of that misanthropic ideology and the defilement of monuments to the fighters against fascism, who made an outstanding contribution to the victory of anti-Hitler coalition in the Second World War.

The voting took place in the Committee on Social and Humanitarian Issues, on the Russian delegation's initiative. 124 voted for it, 55 abstained and only the USA voted against the draft resolution.

Voting is regarded as the main stage in the adoption of a resolution, which actually guarantees its approval at the plenary session of the UN General Assembly, due to take place in the middle of December. The deputy director of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology Vladimir Zorin says:

"The adoption of this document is a very important step. One can state with satisfaction that the world public took into account the concern that was expressed, first of all, by the representatives of the Russian human rights organizations, the Russian public and Russia's leadership. Because the facts we've come across in recent times, deplorably, were earlier assessed with "double standard" applied, and many people believed this was not a matter of principle".

And the fact that the most influential international organization - meaning the United Nations - regards as unlawful any action to glorifyfascism and its collaborators is of great moral significance. Political forces, which did this with perfect impunity till recently, will have to realize that they are challenging the world community.

In the first place, this concerns the Baltic countries and Ukraine, which raised connivance with fascist collaborators to a state policy rank. In Estonia and Latvia legionaries from the Baltic Waffen SS units are presented as "national liberation fighters", though in reality they collaborated with the Nazis and committed crimes on the territories that were occupied by the Nazis during the Second World War. And now they are honoured, and monuments are erected to them. And parallel with this, the monuments to those who did their utmost to save Europe and the rest of the world from the "brown plague", being desecrated.

A similar situation is observed in Ukraine, where, with the participation of President Viktor Yushchenko, a targed campaign, aimed of heroization of of the OUN-UPA fighters, who sided with Hitler's forces during the war, is under way out now. And a good example is granting posthumously the title of the Hero of Ukraine title to the commander of the Ukrainian Rebel Army (UPA) SS Hauptsturmfuhrer Roman Shukhevich.

It is very important that the United Nations has adopted a relevant resolution ahead of the festivities to mark the 65th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Now, the world community has made it clear that the world will not stand for glorification of Nazism and any attempts to rehabilitate the followers of the "brown" ideology.
