Egypt: Palestinian state with provisional borders 'unacceptable'

Egypt categorically rejects an Israeli proposal for a Palestinian state within provisional borders that do not embrace East Jerusalem.     President Hosni Mubarak told this to the press on Sunday after discussing Middle East matters with his Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres at a meeting with him in Cairo. He said the search for Middle East peace must be focused on final, not provisional solutions. He also urged Israel to stop building new Jewish homes in West Bank and East Jerusalem areas, remove roadblocks from the West Bank  and end the blockade of Gaza.     Israel claims sovereignty over all parts of Jerusalem and argues it has a legitimate right to settle Israeli nationals across the Holy City.     The Palestinians refuse to return to peace talks as long as Israel continues to settle Jews on occupied Arab land.
