Latvia’s Consent Centre political movement led by Riga Mayor Nil Ushakov, has signed a cooperation deal with the United Russia party, the Russian-language daily Vesti Segodnya reports. The Consent Centre has become the twentieth foreign political movement to achieve an agreement with the Russian ruling party. Nil Ushakov visited the United Russia’s meeting recently held in Saint Petersburg and met his counterparts from Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Yury Luzhkov and Valentina Matviyenko, and also some high-ranking officials from the Pskov region. Ushakov invited them to attend a summit of mayors of the EU and the CIS in Riga next year. ‘Latvia badly needs close economic ties with Russia’, Ushakov said.
