The Russian Foreign Ministry has voiced unease over what it called the Ukrainian authorities’ deliberate attempts to cloud bilateral ties by notably revising World War Two (WWII) history. In a statement on Wednesday, the Ministry cited a just-issued decree by President Viktor Yushchenko who called for the recognition of the Ukrainian liberation movement in the 20th century. The move clearly reflects official Kiev’s push for NATO to the detriment of long-standing fraternal ties between Russia and Ukraine, the statement said. It cautioned Kiev against playing hardball with Moscow, adding that rewriting WWII history is nothing but a desecration of the memory of millions of victims killed in last century’s bloodiest war.
