The European Union's statement on Jerusalem's status is not a sensation, Vladimir Chizhov, Russia's envoy to the EU told the Voice of Russia Tuesday. According to him the statement has just proved the EU's position on Jerusalem which is supported by most of the countries. Chizhov also said that the role of the EU in settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is quite important. He did not elaborate.

Earlier Tuesday the EU called for Jerusalem to serve as the capital of both Israel and a future Palestinian state as part of a negotiated peace. This proves that the EU does not recognize the change of Israel's border after a military conflict with Arabs in June 1967. In response Israel's Foreign Ministry has made a statement saying that the EU's position on Jerusalem does not contribute to resuming Israeli-Palestinian talks.
