Lavrov, Rasmussen hopeful about Russia-NATO ties
| Dec 16, 2009 13:42 Moscow Time |
Meeting with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen in Moscow on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned not to overdramatize the existing differences between NATO and Russia, both of which currently signal readiness to repair relations. Lavrov called for bilateral fence-mending to be first of all fulfilled within the framework of the Russia-NATO Council that should also grapple with a raft of the two’s stumbling blocks. For his part, Rasmussen voiced hope that his current visit to Moscow will add substantially to full-blown collaboration between the alliance and Russia. The two could jointly address an array of global challenges, Rasmussen stressed, urging an early resolution of the existing sticking points.
