Russia to build 4th Borey-class sub in early 2010
| Dec 21, 2009 14:24 Moscow Time |
Russia plans to begin the construction of the fourth Borey-class strategic submarine in early 2010, the Navy Chief, Vladimir Vysotsky, said Monday. Vysotsky said the delay in construction is not linked to the latest unsuccessful launches of Russia’s Bulava intercontinental missile designed for deployment on Borey-class nuclear-powered submarines. Currently, one strategic submarine is undergoing testing, while two more are under construction. Russia plans to have 8 Borey-class submarines by 2017.
