Climate is one of the factors having a serious impact on the world economy and the just ended UN sponsored climate conference in Copenhagen has further strengthened the argument of believers in the theory. Professor Boris Porfiryev of the Russian academy of sciences is studying the climate factor.

In his work which has won an academy award for the year 2009, professor Porfiryev investigated how climate change influences the dynamics of economic development and modernization of economic structures, and found  out that global warming affects people, the environment and  industry differently:

"Global warming which has been recognized as a permanent tendency in the last few decades, more precisely should be known as climate changes  since they go beyond the measuring of temperature only, involves the changing of the conditions of economic management".

The question of whether global warming brings more advantages or disadvantages is in order, but perhaps inappropriate, said professor PorfiryevGlobal warming occurs unevenly and its effects are different not only territorially but also in terms of periods of time for different economic sectors  as well as production, said professor Porfiryev.

The findings by the investigator of the phenomenon of global warming that temperature in Russia is rising faster than in the rest of the world, bring more gains than losses to the country. It supports the theory that global warming has different impacts in the world. Russia is therefore luckier than the rest of the world and the gains for the country's nationala budget from global warming can be calculated, declared the Professor. Tape

Global warming is bringing with it changes in economic management in a number of Russian regions, primarily pertaining to gains. In the relatively warm winter of 2007, for example, Russia had a saving of 120 million tons of fuel due to global warning . In monetary terms, the saving was 30 billion dollars, quite a handsome amount. Another positive effect of global warming for Russia is the freeing of part of the Arctic Ocean for shipping.

But it is not all smooth sailing; experts say that global warming will bring more rain and as a result more floods, putting at greater risk  almost all low lying countries.
