Chavez threatens to “kick out” Toyota plant
| Dec 25, 2009 00:14 Moscow Time |
Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez has threatened to nationalize Toyota’s assets in the country for refusing to produce enough four-wheel drive vehicles for use as public transport in the capital Caracas. Mr. Chavez gave a similar ultimatum also to Ford, General Motors and Fiat during a public address. If the demand isn't met, he said: "I invite you to pack up your belongings and leave. I'll bring in the Russians, the Belarusians, the Chinese." The Toyota plant, which opened in Venezuela in 1991, assembles about 13,000 cars and trucks each year.
