A team of Italian scientists is planning to exhume the remains of Leonardo da Vinci, from a chapel in the Ambroise castle in France, for a genetic test to verify that they really belong to the genius of the Renaissance. The DNA extracted from the bones in Ambroise will be compared with that of Leonardo’s brother who was buried in Bologna in the 16th century. The test will also confirm whether Leonardo was a vegetarian. Giorgio Gruppioni, an anthropologist at Bologna University, says he may be able to reconstruct Leonardo’s face, if his cranium is found.
