Ovechkin takes over as Washington Capitals' captain

Alexander Ovechkin of Russia was appointed captain of the Washington Capitals ice hockey club. The appointment was announced before the Capitals’ 4:2 win over the Montreal Canadians. Ovechkin, 24, become the Caps’ 14th captain and the 6th Russian honored to be the captain of a NHL team. The five others were Pavel Bure, Alexander Mogilny, Alexei Yashin, Alexei Zhamnov and Ilya Kovalchuk. Ovechkin ranks among the best NHL players. During his four seasons with the Capitals, he scored 245 goals and got 430 points.
