Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has approved an anti-alcohol campaign which aims to reduce alcohol consumption in the country by half by 2020. Minimum prices for alcohol, stamping out the illegal alcohol market, and restrictions on alcohol advertising have been placed on the priority list. The campaign was initiated by President Dmitry Medvedev in August. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Russia has one of the highest levels of alcohol consumption in the world, the equivalent of 18 liters of pure alcohol for every man, woman and child per year.
