Victorious Kamaz team back home from Dakar Rally
| Jan 21, 2010 15:26 Moscow Time |
Russia’s Kamaz-Master team made a triumphant comeback to Naberzhnye Chelny, the republic of Tatarstan, after its victorious performance in the Dakar Rally. Hundreds of people came to greet the Dakar champions at the airport. The team’s leader Sergei Yakubov said Dakar had been a severe test both for the vehicles and drivers. More than a half of the almost 500 vehicles that started off in Buenos Aires on January 1 in the world’s most prestigious motor race spanning over 9,000 km failed to make it to the finish line. Russia’s Vladimir Chagin, a multiple Dakar winner, snatched the first place from his teammate and last year’s champion Firdaus Kabirov. Ilgizar Mardyeev came fifth. They were congratulated by President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
