Russia urges the UN mission in Kosovo to prevent the destruction of the local Orthodox Christian churches and monasteries, which are regularly been desecrated there.  Speaking at Friday’s meeting of the UN Security Council in New York Russia’s deputy UN ambassador Igor Shcherbak described as “insufficient” measures being taken to safeguard the Serbian religious and cultural monuments in the breakaway province. He referred to the cases of  Orthodox cemeteries and temples  being vandalized as mentioned in a recent report by US Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and demanded swift measures to prevent such outrages happening again.
