The Afghan Taliban deny reports that their representatives recently had talks with UN special envoy Kai Eide to discuss peace. A statement by the Islamist group's ruling council described the reports as "futile and baseless rumors" and vowed to keep fighting on. Kai Eide too denied a report that talks were held in Dubai. On Thursday the Afghan government invited the Taliban to join peaceful life and renounce violence. This idea was readily endorsed by a key Afghanistan summit that was recently held in London.
