US invites Russia to discuss missile defence
The United States has invited Russia to discuss missile defence and hopes that Moscow will accept the invitation, said the US Under Secretary of Defence for Policy Michèle Flournoy on Monday. She pointed out that Russia has a number of radar bases and other systems that could prove quite useful in cooperation to ensure European security. The point was also stressed in a review of US NMD programmes, circulated in Washington yesterday. The review specifically points out that Moscow and Washington have been working on reciprocal early warnings of missile launches, as well as on likely technological and operational cooperation.
