The US cancels its Moon research programme

The US Administration has decided to cancel its Moon research programme CONSTELLATION. The Head of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Charles Bolden said this in a telephone conversation with the Director of Russia’s Federal Space Agency Roskosmos Anatoly Perminov. General Bolden also briefed Roskosmos on the US refusal from developing a new spacecraft Orion, as well as the Ares-I and Ares-V launch vehicles, which were due to have been developed under the Moon research programme. Bolden also said that the Untied States had decided to prolong the service life of the US segment of the International Space Station until the year 2020, as part of reconsidering the objectives of the US national space programme.
