Senior grade students at Israeli schools will study the history of Jewish immigration from the former USSR with a mandatory exam in the subject, an Education Ministry spokeswoman, Gita Rokah, has told reporters. The move coincides with the 20th anniversary of the “big aliyah” or mass immigration of Jews into Israel during the split-up of the former Soviet Union. Earlier, the course in the history of Jewish immigration ended with the World War II period.
