Russia opposes missiles in neighboring countries-Ivanov
| Feb 4, 2010 14:18 Moscow Time |
Russia is concerned to see neighboring countries increasing the number of short- and medium-range missiles, says Vice Premier Sergei Ivanov, who, together with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, is heading the Russian delegation at the 46th Munich Security Conference. According to Mr. Ivanov, while Moscow and Washington have fulfilled the terms of a treaty on the limitation of such kind of missiles, North Korea, China, Pakistan, Iran and Israel possess missiles which could attack Russia. Mr. Ivanov noted that two years ago Russia and the US urged the world’s nations to join the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty but the appeal was ignored by those possessing the missiles. Mr. Ivanov believes that amid the rapid development of missile technologies some international regulations should be approved on the issue. He added that despite the lack of missiles, Russia continues to modernize its weapons to be able to repel any kind of attack.
