The prominent Russian military expert Vladimir Dvorkin says that the US decision to deploy its antimissile missiles in Romania proves that Washington is unprepared for missile defence cooperation with Moscow. The Russian expert points out that the involvement of East-European nations in the US missile defence plans will add negative undertones to the general West-Russia interaction in the field of security. On Thursday Romanian President Traian Basesecu said his country had agreed to deploying surveillance systems and interceptor missiles that are part of the new US national missile defence system. The system is due to become operational in 2015. Earlier it was Poland and the Czech Republic that were to have hosted US missile defence system elements. Moscow has repeatedly suggested that Washington interact with Russia in the missile defence area by using Russia’s radar base in Armavir and another one in Gabala, which Russia is leasing from Azerbaijan.
