Lavrov, Mashaal to discuss resumption of Palestinian-Israeli dialogue

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the leader of the HAMAS movement’s political wing Khaled Mashaal are meeting in Moscow today to take up ways to resume the Palestinian-Israeli dialogue and reach an inter-Palestinian settlement. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokesman Andrei Nesterenko, consultations with Mashaal will take place in the context of talks with the influential forces of Palestinian society. Accoridng to the official, the Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas has recently come to Russia on a visit. Abbas’s talks with President Dmitry Medvedev proved that the two had a similar stand on a settlement of the problem. Besides his consultations at the Russian Foreign Ministry, Mashaal is due to meet the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, the Head of the Council of Muftis of Russia Ravil Gainutdin, and also address students of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations.
