The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has told Madeleine Albright that Moscow appreciates NATO’s interest in Russia’s stance on the alliance’s new strategic concept. The former US Secretary of State has arrived in Russia at the head of a delegation of NATO’s “Council of Wise Men”, in charge of drawing up the alliance’s new strategic concept. This is the first time ever that NATO has shown readiness to discuss with Russia issues pertaining to drafting the alliance’s fundamental military document. According to earlier reports from Brussels, the current visit to Moscow by a representative delegation of the “Council of Wise Men” is part of the strategy of NATO’s Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, who believes that restoring confidence between the Russian Federation and NATO should be a basic priority of the North Atlantic alliance.
