Russian ship stranded in China gets supplies

Fuel and food have been taken to the “Snowmass” Russian refrigerator ship at China’s seaport Zhoushan after the crew had sent an SOS signal. Accoridng to the Russian seamen’s union, China said that the authorities would sort out the situation around the ship, impounded due to debts, after the New Year according to the lunar calendar. “Snowmass” is likely to be sold, while the crew of 15 seamen will be repatriated to Russia’s Maritime Territory, where they make their home. The crew, accommodated at a hotel, is keeping the watch on board the vessel, taking turns, -7 seamen at a time. The ship, owned by two people, of whom one lives in Tallinn, while the other in New York, arrived in China from Uruguay. The cptain of the “Snowmass” was compelled to send an SOS last Friday, when the crew had run out of money, food and fuel. The seamen, of whom three are ill, had demanded immediate repatriation.
