Russia's President has put the task to satisfy the country's needs in fish products. The Food Security Doctrine, which was signed by the Russian head of state some days ago, says that the fish, caught by Russian fishermen, should make up 80 per cent of all fish appearing in the shops in Russia.
Will the Russian fisherman be able to fulfill the task, put by the Russian President? The head of the PR Centre of Rosrybolovstvo Service Alexander Savelyev says with absolute certainty: "Yes!" Adding that Russian fish is much cheaper. The only problem is that Russian fisherman can't sell it correctly.
Fishermen don't know - and probably, this is not their business - what should they do to advance fish to home market - meaning both directly and figuratively. They know neither how to advertise or sell it. And as regards the traders, for the time being they are first of all interested in the advancement of import.
And import here, mainly, means fish, which was grown under artificial conditions in Vietnam, China and Norway. It is larded with antibiotics and colorants. It can't be compared with the fish, which Russian fishermen are ready to supply to the home market.
One-third of the fish, caught by Russian fishermen, is meant for export - mainly, for the countries in the Asia-Pacific Region. If we put an accent on the home market supplies, we'll surely fulfill the task, which is formulated in the Food Security Doctrine.
The Rosrybolovstvo Service dashes all hopes for creating wholesale markets in Russia's coastal regions. Talks are currently underway on the establishment of such a market in the Moscow Region. It is also necessary to create a network of shops to which fishermen could supply their fish, bypassing mediators. St. Petersburg has already responded to this proposal. Up to 400 specialized "Okean" (ocean) shops, where buyers will be able to buy fish by 30 per cent cheaper than in regular stores, may shortly emerge in Moscow too. In time permanent "Okean" shops will appear in Moscow too.
I t is not for the first year that the head of the Rosrybolovstvo Service Andrei Krainii has been defending the popularization of fish dishes among people. Last year his service launched an advertising campaign under the slogan "Fish is Waiting for You!" Within its framework there appeared advertising posters in 50 cities in Russia, urging people to eat dishes, including the so-called "social types of fish" - such as sprat and herring. The Rosrybolovstvo Service plans to continue its work this year too - this time with the help of social ads.
Last year Russian fishermen set a record, which has proved unprecedented in 20 years. Their total catch nearly reached 4 million tons. This year's fishing season started very early - on January 1st. And as we can see now, the volume of fishermen's catches in the Far East outstrips last year's results by 50,000 odd tons. For Russia , which is washed by 12 seas and where there're more than 2.5 million rivers , fishing has always been one of the most important and socially significant types of businesses.
