| Feb 18, 2010 07:32 Moscow Time |
A powerful earthquake of 6.7 points took place near Vladivostok – Russia’s most eastern city at the early hours of Thursday, reports Russian RIA-Novosti news agency, referring to the site of the US geological service. The local seismic station, however, names a different figure – 5.8 points. The epicenter of the quake was on the border between Russia, China and North Korea, 110 kilometers from Vladivostok and the same distance from the Korean city of Chongjin, more than 500 kilometers deep. Preliminary reports say no people or buildings have suffered, and local services assure there is no threat of tsunami. The Primorsk region of Russia is a seismically dangerous area where 7-point earthquakes take place approximately every 50 years.
