Laura Chinchilla has become Costa Rica’s first woman president. The Supreme Court of Elections has officially proclaimed her the winner of the February 7th presidential election in the Latin American nation. Chinchilla, of the ruling National Liberation Party, won the election in a landslide. She says she will focus on speeding up the country’s socio-economic development and on fighting poverty.
