In an interview with Russia’s ITAR-TASS news agency on Monday, the prominent German pundit warned against stationing elements of the US missile shield in Eastern Europe – something that Lorenz Haag said may well undermine regional security. He pointed to Warsaw’s recent go-ahead for Washington’s plans to deploy its Patriot interceptors just 100 kilometers from the border with the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. This will certainly help the United States to take better control of Russia’s airspace, Haag explained, also cautioning against the installation of elements of the US missile defense system in Romania and Bulgaria. This is absolutely inacceptable, Haag warned, urging a full-scale cooperation between world powers to add to stable peace.
