Russia is inviting the top scientists from abroad to work at Russian universities. The Ministry of Education and Science issued 110 grants at the amount of 2 million rubles (about 70 thousand dollars) for this purpose. Professors and scientists, applying for these grants "should work in Russia no less than two months and present the best projects", - the Ministry says. Currently, 380 applications have already been received.
Grants are aimed at both foreigners, and scientists who left Russia. Many Russian high schools are interested in such professionals, says the pro-rector for scientific research at the Russian State University for the Humanities Dmitry Bak.
"The first applications which arrived from many Russian universities have already been considered. Each project featured scientists-compatriots who are currently professors of a foreign university".
Competition was rather tough, as many our scientists are among the top in the best universities of different countries. The Russian State University for the Humanities also participated in this competition, and one our application won. We got an opportunity to listen to lectures by one of the leading philologists and musicologists Boris Gasparov. He will lecture at our university and supervise post-graduates within two years. It is great when a foreign scientist attracts new students. He can also promote new books in the sphere of his scientific interests. In my opinion this is the most efficient use of intercultural contacts for the benefit of the two countries and universities where a certain scientist works.
"Our university is going to continue taking part in competitions. Now we are participating in another distribution of grants and hope to win".
The Ministry of Education and Science plans to assign up to 3 million dollars for three years to invite top scientists from abroad to work in certain spheres.
