Baltiyskaya NPP to be built in Kaliningrad Region

The construction of a nuclear power plant began in Russia’s Kaliningrad Region on Thursday, with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov, Rosatom chief Sergei Kiriyenko and Kaliningrad Region Governor Georgy Boos attending a ground-breaking ceremony earlier in the day. For his part, Ivanov touted advanced characteristics of the Baltiyskaya NPP, which he said will be put into operation in 2016 and which will help Russia boost its geopolitical clout.
