Obama orders revising draft of new US nuclear doctrine
| Mar 1, 2010 14:13 Moscow Time |
The US President Barack Obama has ordered the draft of the nation’s new nuclear doctrine to be revised over differences in his Administration, reports the London-based weekly The Observer. According to the periodical, the draft fails to reflect the US President’s aspiration for securing a nuclear-free world and putting paid to the Cold War mentality. A new draft should be ready by April. The Observer reports that the US Administration has split in two on the draft of the new doctrine, with the first group under Vice-President Joe Biden supporting Obama on nuclear disarmament. The others, under Defence Secretary Robert Gates are opposed to this kind of policy. State Secretary Hillary Clinton has so far failed to join ranks with either group.
