Israel to stay in West Bank of Jordan
| Mar 2, 2010 16:23 Moscow Time |
Israel will stay in the West Bank of Jordan even if the peace treaty with Palestine is signed, said Israel’s prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a meeting with the members of the Knesset (parliament) . According to Netanyahu, «The river Jordan valley across the Eastern border of the West bank is of a strategic significance for Israel, thus it cannot leave it». This statement is unacceptable for Palestinians. The head of the Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas has repeatedly stated that the future Palestinian state will include the whole West Bank. Palestinian-Israeli talks were suspended in December 2008 as Israel is continuing its settlement activity in the region. Even the US which is the closest ally of Israel condemns such a tough position of Netanyahu’s government.
