More than 2 months are left before the festivities on V- Day, and the rehearsals for a solemn parade in Moscow on the occasion, are going at full steam. From March 9th the rehearsals will be organized on the Red Square.
According to the chairman of the organizing committee for the festivities Executive Officer of the Russian President, Vladimir Kozhin, the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War will become an unforgettable national holiday. The festivities will begin on May 8th, after the opening in the Alexandrovsky Park near the Kremlin walls of a stele in honour of the 22 cities of military glory:
"Moreover, it has sufficient space left because the process of granting this title to new cities is not over yet. Space for new Cities of Military Glory - if any - is preserved there".
The memorable stele will rank with the existing steles of the Hero-Cities. Together with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier they will make part of the architectural ensemble of the National Memorial of Military Glory - the first in Russia.
The all-Russia parade in honour of V-Day will take place on May 9th. It will begin at 10 o'clock Moscow Time on Red Square at one and the same time with the parades , which will take place in another 16 cities in the country and in the Hero -City of Sevastopol in Crimea, where the headquarters of the Russian Black-Sea Fleet is located. Vladimir Kozhin says that the main objective of such a wide-scale parade is to invite all the living participants of the Great Patriotic War to attend the event. The most honoured guests on the stands on Red Square alone will be 950 front-line soldiers.
For the first time the military contingents of the Anti-Hitler coalition member-countries will take part in the Victory Parade. The U.S. military unit up to a company in strength with modern equipment and weapons and one of the USA's military bands will also take part in the military parade on May 9th. The number of the British servicemen will be approximately the same.
For the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War the jubilee programmes will continue till the evening of May 9th. They will end with a festive salute in honour of V-Day.
This also will be a salute worthy of a jubilee event, Vladimir Kozhin says. It will be absolutely different in scale, format and in its components from the former ones
The chairman of the organizing committee says that during the parade of May 9th modern tanks and armoured vehicles, and also anti-aircraft and artillery systems will pass over the Red Square. 3 mobile launch-pads of the nuclear missile system "Topol - M" will take part in a V-Day parade for the first time. There will also be a fly past over Moscow.
The delegations of the heads of state and government from 45 countries and also representatives of many international organizations will arrive in Moscow to take part in the events, dedicated. For the people in Russia the 65th anniversary of the Great Victory is undoubtedly the main holiday event of this year.
