Putin urges fence-mending between Russia and Georgia
| Mar 4, 2010 20:13 Moscow Time |
Meeting with Georgia’s opposition leader Nino Burdjanadze in Moscow on Thursday, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin called for an early fence-mending between Russia and Georgia. The bilateral ties came to the freeze in the wake of the 2008 brief war between the two over South Ossetia, Putin said, lamenting official Tbilisi’s persistent reluctance to repair relations with Moscow. The Russian PM signaled his country’s push for a thaw in ties with the entire Georgian people in what was echoed by Burdjanadze, who also urged the bilateral bridge-building. Normalizing ties between Russia and Georgia is vital for a sustained regional development, Burdjanadze stressed.
