Russia has agreed to reopen its market to US pork, US Department of Agriculture said in a statement. The corresponding restrictions were introduced in December 2009 , as products did not meet Russia's food safety requirements.
Talks between the two countries have "led to the development of a new veterinary certificate to ensure that pork exports from the US meet specific Russian microbiological and antibiotic residue requirements," the US Department of Agriculture said in a statement.
In 2008, the US increased its pork export to Russia by 118% compared to 2007 .
