EU to intensify effort to rekindle Israeli-Palestinian talks
| Mar 6, 2010 21:06 Moscow Time |
The European Union is intensifying diplomatic effort to persuade Israel and the Palestinians to resume peace talks. To this end, the EU’s foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton is visiting Gaza in course of her trip to the Middle East scheduled for the middle of March. As they met in Cordoba the EU foreign ministers welcomed the Arab League’s decision to support mediated talks between Palestinian Autonomy and Israel. Turkey offered to mediate in the talks. The dialogue between Palestinians and Israel was suspended at the end of 2008 after Israel’s “Cast Lead” operation in Gaza in response to missile attacks on its territory.
