Moscow hopes that the parliamentary election, just over in Iraq, will help achieve a comprehensive settlement in the country. The Russian Foreign Ministry’s official spokesman Andrei Nesterenko says he is content with the fact that all political forces and ethnic and religious communities of Iraq took part in the election. This paves the way for achieving national accord, boosting independence, the exercising by the Iraqis of their right to decide on their own future and mineral resources as they see fit, the Russian diplomat said. He deplored the fact that the election was held amid an involved situation, with almost 40 people falling victim to bomb explosions and mortar shelling in Baghdad and other cities. Over 100 people are reported wounded.
