A scandal has erupted in Moldova amid preparations for the 65th anniversary of Victory in World War II. The Moldovan parliament’s decision to release a commemorative medal resembling the Iron Cross, a military decoration of Nazi Germany, shocked and outraged war veterans. They said that no one had even bothered to ask their opinion and that no competition for the medal’s design had been held. Meanwhile, the Commonwealth of Independent States will release its own common medal by the May V-Day ceremonies. One side will show the Order of Valor, and the other will have the inscription “65th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War”.
