The Cabinet Committee on Security of India has approved the allocation of extra money for finishing the modernization of the «Admiral Gorshkov» aircraft carrier in Russia. After being handed over to the Indian Navy, the vessel will be re-named “Vikramaditya” after an epic hero. According to the RIA Novosti, the contract sum of 2.3 billion dollars is a supplement for the original agreement, concluded in 2004. It provided for a 750-billion-dollar modernization of the “Admiral Gorshkov” by the Russian side and supplies of naval aircraft to India for the same amount of money. The carrier issue will be high on the agenda of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s visit to India, starting on March 11th.
