Moscow has expressed its concern over the Israeli plans to build 1,600 dwelling units in Eastern Jerusalem. The Department of Information and Press at the Russian Foreing Ministry declared such actions unacceptable and contrary to the generally recognized international laws. They also predetermine the negotiation process, aimed at solving a range of issues, particularly on the status of Jerusalem. The Russian Foreign Ministry called upon Israel to refrain from such unilateral steps.
