Russia's "Rostechnologies" Corporation has the French National Order of the Legion of Honor. The Corporation's General Director Sergei Chemezov received the honorary award from President Nicolas Sarkozy during an official ceremony at Elysee Palace on Tuesday which marked the start of the Year of Russia in France.
"Rostechnologies" Director Sergei Chemezov earned France's top award for a hefty contribution to Russian-French cooperation in high-tech production. A "Rostechnologies" spokesman, Valery Kartavtsev, has this to say:
"Rostechnologies" has established business ties with a whole string of French technology giants, including Renault, Thales, Safran, EADS/Airbus, Alcatel Lucent and Alstom. Without exaggeration, "Rostechnologies" has played a crucial role in fostering economic cooperation between Russia and France".
Along with "Rostechnologies" Renault is a shareholder of the Russian auto giant "AvtoVAZ". Thales supplies Russian military hardware producers with information systems. In November 2009 "Rostechnologies" clinched more bilateral cooperation deals with major French companies during an official visit to France by the Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. "Rostechnologies" head Sergei Chemezov plans more meetings and talks with French partners during his current visit to Paris.
The Order of Legion of Honor is the highest decoration in France established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802. It is given to civilians and military alike for their remarkable achievements both in peacetime and in times of war. The President of the French Republic is the Grand Master of the Order and appoints all other members of the Order. The Legion of Honor Order was awarded to a number of Russian politicians, scientists and cultural celebrities, including the Director of the Hermitage Museum Boris Piotrovsky, Russia's first President Boris Yeltzin and the incumbent Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
