Russian nationals have escaped unhampered a series of powerful earth shocks in Chile on Thursday, says the Russian ambassador to the South American country Yuri Filatov. According to the diplomat, Moscow is considering additional aid to Santiago. Last week two aircraft of the Russian Emergencies Ministry flew in 56 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Chile. On February 27th Chile was hit by numerous quakes of up to 9.0 magnitude. Some 500 died in the quakes, while 2 million were left homeless. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev offered condolences to the victims’ families in a message to the new Chilean leader Sebastian Piñera and said that Russia was prepared to continue providing the required assistance to do away with the aftermath of the natural calamity in the country.
