The Finnish citizen Veli-Pekka Rantala says he wants to obtain Russian citizenship. Mr. Rantala is the father of the seven-year old Robert, whom social workers have compulsorily taken from the mixed family to an orphanage. On Thursday Mr. Rantala officially requested the Russian embassy in Helsinki to grant him Russian citizenship, says his wife, Russian national Inga. Their son Robert, of dual citizenship, was committed to an orphanage in the city of Turku after he had told his classmates in early February that his mother and he might leave for Russia. The local social workers decided that it was dangerous for the boy to remain in the family. They submitted the case to the court, urging that Robert’s mother and father should be deprived of their parental rights.
