At least 20 people drowned when floods washed away 60 homes in an Alma-Ata region village, in the south of Kazakhstan. Heavy rain and melting snow washed out and broke the dam of the Kyzyl-Agash reservoir. The homes in some settlements are partially submerged, with people being evacuated from the disaster areas. Rail and road traffic has been brought to a halt in the region. President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan has ordered a government commission to be set up, to clear up the damage and provide support for those affected.
