Georgian Imedi TV channel has apologized in a news ticker for its mock news report made this Saturday evening saying that Russian tanks are moving towards Tbilisi, President Saakashvili is killed and some of the opposition support the Russian invasion. Only in the end of the report it was said that it was only a picture of possible events. The news caused a panic among the population; several people were taken to hospital with heart attacks. Tens of representatives of the opposition have gathered in protest near the TV center. Head of Russia’s State Duma committee for international affairs Konstantin Kosachyov called this mock news item “a provocation of the Saakashvili’s regime”. It is expected that the spokesperson of the Georgian President Manana Majgaladze will soon make a special statement.
